UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry's Academic Health Careers Fellowship Program (AHCFP) is an immersive 1-month professional development program designed to expose and mentor practitioners who are interested in pursuing an academic career.
Fellows will participate in a 4 series webinar, in which they are guided throughout this program by a faculty mentor and the Office of Professional Development and Faculty Affairs. The program culminates in a scholarly capstone project. AHCFP is a collaborative endeavor between the Office of Professional Development and Faculty Affairs and the PACE Center at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry.

Harold A. Henson, RDH, MEd, PhD, FADHA, currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and is the Program Coordinator for the Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Program at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. Dr. Henson has taught at all levels of curriculum: graduate, predoctoral, and undergraduate, since 1998 and has served in various senior administrative positions. In addition, he has held numerous leadership positions within organized dental hygiene. He has received various national, regional, and local teaching and professional awards. In June 2021, he received the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) Johnson and Johnson Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award. In November 2021, he received The University of Texas System Regents Outstanding Teaching Award. Then, in the spring of 2023, he was inducted into The University of Texas Kenneth I. Shine, MD, Academy of Health Science Education. He was bestowed the honorific title of Distinguished Teaching Professor by The University of Texas System. In February 2024, he received the UTHealth Houston President’s Scholar Excellence Award in Teaching. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Houston. In addition, he earned a certificate in dental hygiene from The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. He continued his graduate studies by completing a Master of Education in Allied Health Education and Administration from The University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Human Resource Development specializing in Adult Education from Texas A&M University.

Carolyn Huynh, DDS, MEd, EdD, is an associate professor in the Department of Diagnostic & Biomedical Sciences at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, where she earned her dental degree. Dr. Huynh received a master of education in curriculum and instruction and a doctorate of education in professional leadership with an emphasis in health science education from the University of Houston. Dr. Huynh is a member of the Chinese American Doctors Association of Houston, American Dental Education Association, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Greater Houston Dental Society, Texas Dental Association and American Dental Association. |
